Sometimes it does not pay Christchurch City to do business with itself, inis was revealed at the meeting of the Christchurch City Council last Monday evening, when, in discussion of the accounts, Cr G. Manning queried an amount of £4 9s paid to a private firm for the purchase of electric lamps. “ Some time ago, when the council wanted new electric lamps tor the Civic Theatre, the Municipal Bloctricity Department wanted to charge for them a price which wo thought was too high,” replied the Mayor (Mr J. W. Beanland). “Consequently wo obtained from this firm and other private concerns quotations which were such that it paid us to get the lamps from them.”
