WHEAT SHIP ASHORE
THE HERZOGIN CECILIE THOUSANDS VISIT SCENE (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 20. (Received April 27, at 5.5 p.m.) Thousands journeyed to sec the Herzogin Cccilie aground. Motorists in a ceaseless stream extended for three miles, and the police were forced to institute one-way traffic. The spectators c'ustcrcd on the cliffs and saw small boats dancing alongside the Herzogin Cecilie collecting the crew's belongings. The vessel's position appears hopeless, hut Captain Erikson hopes with favourable weather to discharge the wheat into barges and patch up the holds, enabling fugs to pull the ship off. The Herzogin Cccilie has for several years past been a competitor in the Australian grain ra>:e. She is a steel, four-masted barque of 8111 tons, built in 1902 by Rickners, of Bremcrhavcn. Her dimensions arc:—Length, 337 ft; beam, 40ft; depth, 24ft. She is owned by Gustaf Erickson and Captain S. Erickson is the master.
