The monthly meeting of the St. Clair School Committee was presided over by the chairman (Mr 11. C. Love). The headmaster reported that the roll number was 530, and the average attendance 502, or 94.5 per cent. The school clock in the main hall was not functioning, and he suggestocl the installation of an electric clock. The school bell was also not satisfactory, even teachers not being able to hear it. Swimming tests were conducted at the St. Clair batha during the month. The chairman said that the 12 swimming lessons to Standard IV pupils were entirely inadequate, and many children were leaving school without learning to swim. The opinion was expressed that the swimming lessons should be carried on through the Fifth and Sixth Standards. The Visiting Committee reported a number of repairs required to the school and the grounds. Accounts amounting to £ls 8s lid were passed for payment. Arrangements were made to commence the winter curd evenings during April.
