HIBERNIAN DEBATING CLUB
IMPROMPTU SPEECHES The weekly meeting of the Dunedin Hibernian Social and Debating Club was held on Monday evening last in the club rooms, Manse street. There was a large attendance of members. The first part of the evening’s programme consisted of the reading by Mr J. ,7. Kennedy of three papers—“ Umbrellas and Their Makers,” “The Development of Commercial Clubs,” and “The Early History of Aviation.” The remainder of the evening was devoted to impromptu speeches, the following being a list of the speakers and their subjects:—Mr S. Mee, “Arc You in Favour of the 40-hour Week?”; Mr G. Carroll, “Is the 3—2—3 Serum Preferable to the Present Scrum Formation?”; Mr K. A. King, “Should Picture Theatres and Other Places of Entertainment Remain Open on Sundays? ; Mr M. Moloney, “Is It Necessary to Increase the Unemployment 'lax? ; Mr J. J. Kennedy, “ Should the Rritish Parliament Make Provision for the Possible Marriage of the King?”; Mr W. M'Alcvey, “Is Hitler’s Ileoccupation of the Rhineland Justified?”
