FIRE BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Metropolitan Fire Board was held yesterday, when there were present Messrs S. B. Macdonald {chairman), A. F. Quelch, J. Wilson, P. Ncilson, M.P., J. L. Salmond, W. W. Johnstone, W. W. Callander, and E. H. Ferguson. Reporting on the work of the brigade for the month of February, the acting superintendent (Mr R. H. Price) stated that the calls attended were: Fires, 8; chimney fires, 3; bush and grass, 14; false alarms —malicious 2, justifiable 2, automatic 3, accidental 2; making a total of 34 calls. South Dunedin attended 16 calls, Roslyn 5, and Green Island 1. The only serious outbreak during the month was in a dwelling at 122 Carroll street. The other fires were of a minor nature. Causes of firec were: Spark from machinery, 1; celluloid comb ignited through focussing of sun’s rays, 1; destructor vent too close to woodwork 1; short circuit, 1; painter’s blowlamp, 1; unknown, 3. The properties affected were: Dwellings, 6; shop and dwelling, 1; mattress factory, 1; and garage and motor car, 1. Chimney fires attended were: Central, 1; South Dunedin, 1; and Roslyn, 1. The staff was in full strength, and the plant was in first-class order. The ambulances travelled 1332 miles and carried 101 patients.
The report was adopted. Accounts amounting to £1515 14s lOd were passed for payment.
