NEW ANTI-TANK GUN

ADOPTED BY BRITISH ARMY WAR SECRETARY'S STATEMENT (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, March 12. In the House of Commons Mr A. DuffCooper (Secretary for War) announced the adoption of an anti-tank rifle and a small anti-tank machine-gun. The former is not extremely heavy, and the latter could be carried by one man. The Government was satisfied that the gun was probably the best in the world. Eight cavalry divisions will be mechanised in addition to the two which have undergone the process. Infantry brigades are being reorganised so that instead of four rifle battalions there will be three, and one machine-gun battalion. The former will have the new Bren gun, which is considered the best machine-gun available, and mortars, and the anti-tank rifle and machine gun battalions will be fully mechanised. Mr Duff-Cooper announced improvement in the army and territorial conditions of service.
