SAFETY FIRST

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —-Your issue of March 2 ,regarding the above subject calls my mind to the mode of transit of the punts which are carrying earth to stop the flow of water going through the gates of the dam. They may be all right in the calm weather, but when it is rough I do not think any man should risk his life on bo frail a punt. I believe one man has had three narrow escapes with one of them. I also think we have had enough accidents on this job without risking more for the sake of a good boat or punt which will stand the rough lake at times. One wonders what the Minister will say when he comes up to inspect, which I think is overdue now. —I am, etc.. Watchful. Waitaki Hydro, March 2.
