THE BANK OF CANADA

STATEMENT BY GOVERNOR NO OUTSIDE INFLUENCE OTTAWA, February 25. Any supposition that the Bank of England exercises a malign influence on the Bank of Canada was described as nonsense by Mr Graham Towers (governor of the Bank of Canada) at the first annual meeting of shareholders. " One can safely rely on the Central Banks and the Governments of the dominions to see that no pernicious influence is exerted," he said. "In their own interests the banks must encourage the loosening of the shackles on world trade." He hoped the indications of a revival would be speeded up by cooperation between the Governments.
