PLUNKET SOCIETY

APPEAL FOR FUNDS The North Otago branch of the Plunket Society ia making its annual street collection on Friday. At one time the society was fairly well off financially, but when the depression came along it was found necessary to use its capital to enable the branch to carry on. During the period of the slump the society has used up at least £6OO or £7OO, end the position today is that cash and other assets amount to about £3OO. It costs about £SOO a year to finance the branch, and of this sum the Government subsidy amounts to about £220, and the balance has to be found by the public. The receipts in past years have been at least £125 short of what has been required, hence the reserves have been encroached upon. The local branch has been responsible for .the services of two nurses, given absolutely free to those requiring their advice and assistance. No charge is made, and one nurse attends t\> the requirements of the town, and the other to the whole of the North Otago district.
