MANY RECRIMINATIONS

SEAMEN MEET IN MELBOURNE DISCUSSION ON STRIKE MELBOURNE, February 19. (Received Feb. 19, at 10 p.m.)

There were many recriminations during a lively debate at a seamen’s meeting attended by about 350 members of the union. When the general secretary, Mr .1. Keenan, and the secretary of the Sydney branch, Mr C. Herbert, submitted their report on the settlement negotiations they were subjected to many interruptions. Mr Keenan declared that ho was being “ put on the spot.” One member interjected that the men should be told the truth, that the Strike Committee had failed. The / meeting ultimately agreed that the Sydney seamen, who had sponsored the strike, should also be required to take initial action to end it. Messrs Keenan and Herbert immediately left for Sydney to attend a meeting there.
