RIGOURS OF CLIMATE

SPORTING PROGRAMMES UPSET RACING AND FOOTBALL SUFFER (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, February 1">. (Received Feb. 16, at 8 p.m.) Exceptional cold and frosts caused havoc to sport throughout Britain over the week-end. Thirty-six programmes had to be cancelled. Since the flat racing ended in November owners have lost over £36,000 in stakes. A number of trainers whose horses were engaged in the Grand National and in important spring events have sent their horses to the seaside to gallop on the sand. Football losses amount to many thousands, and the Rugby Union has decided to extend its season.
