WOMEN’S CRICKET

WELLINGTON v. AUCKLAND HALLYBURTON JOHNSTONE SHIELD (Peb United Press Association) AUCKLAND. February IG. The , annual match for the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield between teams representing the Auckland and Wellington Women’s Cricket Associations was commenced at Eden Park yesterday afternoon in fine weather and before a fair crowd of spectators. Auckland batted first, but made a poor showing, being dismissed for the small total of C 9. Wellington made an effective reply by knocking up 114 for the loss of three wickets. The Wellington team undoubtedly showed all-round superiority, more particularly in batting. In this department H. Buck, who made 74 not out, was outstanding. She met all the bowling with the full face of the bat and scored freely on both sides of the wicket. It was a really impressive performance. N. Sheridan was responsible for a fine bowling performance for Wellington, securing the excellent average of five wickets for 13 runs.
