RACING IN SYDNEY

. MEETING AT. CAULFIELD ' j CUDDLE SUCCESSFUL (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE, February 16.-, (Received Feb. 16, at 9 p.m.) , The Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield to-day ' furnished a regular surprise. Belle Silhouette snatching a half-head victory from Araehne, who was conceding the winner two : and-a-half stone. The result was in doubt , to the last stride. The New Zealander Cuddle, ridden by K. Voitre, opened her winning account in the St.'George Stakes, displaying a fine turn of speed. The Sunday papers, in flattering comments about Cuddle’s performance. declare that few horses racing in Melbourne could pace it with her .over seven furlongs. M'Carten will ride her in the Futurity Stakes next Saturday. The stablemates, Gold Rod and Ilium, trained bv G. Price, won both divisions of the Federal Stakes. Watt and hag now two wins and a third in three starts to his credit. Ilium is also regarded as a_ promising colt. Voitre rode a vigorous and characteristic finish in the Bond Handicap to win on Cotys by a head, to the obvious discomfort of the bookmakers.
