PLUMBERS’ EXAMINATIONS
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES The results of the recent examinations for plumbers held throughout the Dominion by the Plumbers’ Board of New Zealand reveal that 28.72 per cent, of the entrants passed the written examination and 57.14 per cent, were successful in the practical part. A total of 237 entered for the written part and 195 sat. The practical examination was taken by 161 candidates. Commenting on the results of the examination the judges expressed the opinion that the standard was very good in practical lead bending, fair in practical accuracy, poor in lead bossing, and very poor in wiping. “We can only emphasise the necessity,” the judges stated, “ for candidates to devote more attention to lead work.” The written work showed a decline compared with that of recent years, but it was satisfactory, from a health point of view, to note the general knowledge shown in relation to water supply and the precautions necessary to ensure its purity for domestic use. The following are the Dunedin and Invercargill results: — Dunedin. —Written, 24 candidates, 4 passed (16.67 per cent.). Practical, 17 candidates, 12 passed (70.59 per cent.).
