SWIMMING MATHIESON BREAKS A RECORD. (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE. January 24. Mathieson, of Dunedin, broke the Australian 400 metres back stroke record by 30sec in smin 41 3-ssec, defeating Noel Ryan, the British Empire champion, and Herford, the Australian half-mile champion. Jaryis, of Dunedin, won the Victorian 100 Yards Freestyle Championship in 54sec from the Queensland champion, Trimble, and the Victorian champion, Crawford.
