CARGILL ROAD METHODIST CHURCH
CIRCUIT QUARTERLY MEETING The Cargill Road Methodist Church held its circuit quarterly meeting at St. Clair Church on Monday. The Rev. G. E. Brown, superintendent, presided over an excellent attendance of officers and representatives. Reports were received from both churches with reference to membership and finance. Cargill Road showed a total of 169 uiembers, and St. Clair 65. Presenting the financial statement, the treasurer pointed out that for the quarter's work, Cargill Road was on the right side of the ledger; but the circuit, as a whole, was slightly down. The special effort held during the quarter had resulted in the rasing of £137. For the young people's departments, the superintendents were able to present good reports. At the end of last year Mr W. W. Aehbv resigned from the Sunday school after filling the position as superintendent for 15 years. For over 50 years Mr Ashbv had been Sunday school superintendent and teacher. The chairman spoke very , highly of Mr Ashby's services in the Sunday school and the church, and moved that it be placed on record the appreciation of the work done throughout the circuit by such a faithful and consistent church officer. The Foreign Mission secretary (Mrs R. Botting) reported that £4B had been collected, and Mr H. P. Luke reported that £2l 10s had been collected for home missions. Both secretaries were re-elected. The work done for St. Clair by Miss Powell was spoken of in very appreciative terms.
Mrs A. E. Harman and J. T. Barclay were reappointed circuit stewards, Mr E. Brown paying a very high tribute to the loyalty of the stewards and to the service they had rendered to the church and himself personally. These officers, respoLciiiig, spoke of the good relationship that existed all round, and wished the Rev. G. E. Brown and the Rev. I. S. Williamson happiness and success in their new charges, which they would take over in April.. - It was decided that Mr J. T. Barclay represent the circuit at conference, with Mr H. C. Vince as substitute. The chairman stated that the church had nine members who were over 80 years of age, and that Mrs Rainsford the oldest member had just celebrated her eighty-sixth birthday. The secretary was instructed to send greetings. It was reported that the Rev. H. C. Orchard, the new superintendent, would take up his duties on April 19.
