SOUTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK

COMPLETION OF LINE URGED DECISION TO REST WITH CABINET (Per United Press Associatjon) NELSON, January 11. A Progress League deputation to-day placed before the Minister of Public Works (Mr R. Semple) the urgent necessity for the completion of the South Island Main Trunk railway. It was pointed out that the filling of a gap of 42 miles, 14 of which had been t'ormed, would complete the railway from Nelson to Invercargill. The Minister, in reply, said he wished to make it clear that at present the Cabinet had no power in the matter, only the Railways Board, but the people could rest assured that that would soon be altered, and Cabinet would take the full responsibility. When that was done Cabinet would make a full investigation and if it said " Go " there would be no stopping the work.
