VINCENT JOCKEY CLUB

CONCLUDING DAY OF MEETING LOCHELLA CUP TO TEIVET. (From Our Special Reporter) QMAKAU, January 11. The Vincent Jockey Club's meeting was concluded in fine weather, and a large attendance viewed the sport. The good sole of grass on the course provided an excellent surface, although not particularly fast. The racing was again very interesting, and provided some close finishes. Mr C. Gieselcr made some snap starts, and some of the riders did not appear to be alert enough or were unaware that such despatches would occur, and consequently one or two horses got badly away. Variation of starting methods may be acceptable, but the best results come from the flat foot start now in almost universal use. The presentation of the various trophies that took place during the latter part of the after; noon provided a very interesting ana humorous part of the day's pleasure or participating in a sporting fixture. The general management of the meeting was excellent and disarmed criticism except that the totalisator staff waited for the most belated investors. The general impression left by the meeting makes it become more strongly established in popularity as the sporting hub of Central Otago. During the day £5325 went through the totalisator, as against £5425 10s last year. The total for the meeting amounted to £8903, or £B2B less than last year.
