Waimate Lawn Tennis The Waihao Lawn Tennis Sub-assoeia-tipn's interclub competitions were concluded on Saturday, when the intersectional finals were decided. There waß an unusual result in the B Grade competition, Waimate I and Makihiki, last year's winners, playing to a draw, both in sets and games. The score was 8 sets all (78 games). With a comfortable win over St. Paul's by 11 sets to 5, Ikanai rounded off its unbeaten record in its first season in the competition by annexing: the C Grade cud. Cricket By securing a four-point win over Redcliff, Waimate A retained its position at the head of the Wajmate Cricket Association's competition, but Old Boys, with an eight-point win against Waimate B, replaced Redcliff in second position. Waimate A has now secured 40 points and Old Boye 34. These teams have yet to meet in the competition. Redcliff have 28 points and Morven 26. < Good scores were registered in both games played on Saturday, the best being M'Donald's forceful knock of 95 hot out for Old Boys. Other good scores were L. Holden 34, L. Wilson 45, C. Richardson 29. Against Waimate B, Old Boys made 148 in their first innings, Waimate replying with 83 and 62. Waimate A defeated Redcliff by 166 runs to 101. Personal A public reception was tendered to Mr David Barnes, M.P. for Waitaki, and Mrs Barnes by the people of the Waimate district on Saturday night. There was an attendance of over 180. MiGeorge Barclay occupied the chair. During the evening the chairman of the Waitaki L.R.C. (Mr R. Eddy), on behalf of the Waitaki branch of the Labour Party, presented Mr Barnes with a leather suit case. Major and Mrs Podmore. who have been in command of the Salvation Army at Waimate for the past two years, will leave on Thursday to take up their new appointment in Christchurch. TEMUKA Obituar) The death took place recently at the Timaru Public Hospital of Mrs Jane M'Kay Radford, of Temuka,«widow of Mr James William Radford. Mrs Radford, who was a daughter of Mr and Mrs M'Leod, was born at Orari Gorge Station in 1871. Forty-two years ago she married Mr J. W. Radford and had resided in the Temuka district since that time. In her - voung days her services were often availed of at local and district concerts, as she was a popular singer. For a long period she was a member of the Temuka Caledonian Soeietv, and was prominently connected with the social side of the soeietv. All her life Mrs Radford maintained a keen interest in the Temuka Presbyterian Church. Her husband predeceased her 20 years and she loaves a family of six daughters and one son — Msdames M. M'Kenna and J. Shelton (Timaru). J. Liddle (Temuka), and Misses Tui, Waka and Lorna Radford and Mr Stuart Radford (Temuka). The funeral took place on Friday afternoon at the Temuka ceinetery, the services both at the residence and the graveside being conducted by the Rev. C. A. Kennedy, minister of the Trinity Presbyterian Church. Temuka. In 1004, the first date for which registration of motor vehicles is available in Canada, the number was 535, including motor cycles and road tractors. Thirty years later the total was 1,129,532. and for 1935 the number will be substantially greater.
