ATTACK ON EVEREST

CLIMBERS OPTIMISTIC CAMP NEAR SUMMIT LONDON, January 9. “ We have greater reason to hope for success than ever before,” Mr Rnttledge told the Daily Telegraph when outlining the Mount Everest party’s preparations. “The team consists of first-rate men, 10 of whom have had previous Himalayan experience. One great objective will be to place an additional camp higher than the highest camp in 1933 and a good deal nearer the summit — probably within 1200 feet. Even from the additional camp it will take the party about 15 hours to reach the summit and return. The climbers will have half an hour at the top at the most.”

Mr Rnttledge will leave for India on January 31, and the expedition will start from Kalinipong, Bengal, on March
