MAORI CHILD KILLED STRUCK WHILE CROSSING STREET. (Peb United Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 15. A Maori child, named Kahupokere Ngakete, aged five years, died almost immediately after being knocked down by a light delivery van in Onehunga on Saturday. The child was running across the street when the accident occurred. CHILD FATALLY INJURED (Pee United Press Association) WHANGAREI, December 14. When little children were playing at Waiotira on Thursday evening, Ngaire Hartnell, aged five years, tripped over a companion and fell, injuring her back. She was taken to hospital, where she died yesterday. MOTOR CYCLIST’S DEATH COLLISION WITH A LORRY. (Pee United Press Association) NAPIER, December 15. As the result of internal injuries suffered in a collision with a motor lorry on Friday evening, a young man named Walter Girvan, of Napier, died in hospital this morning. Mrs Nancy Watts, who was riding pillion on the motor cycle with Girvan, was also injured, but not seriously. The collision occurred on the Napier-Bay View road when the cycle crashed into the rear of a motor lorry driven by James Tait, of Bay View, who had pulled the vehicle on to the side of the road. COLLISION WITH TRAM YOUTH DIES IN HOSPITAL. (Per United Press Association t CHRISTCHURCH, December 15. William Henry Prior Gibson, aged 20, single, a tannery worker, of Sumner, while riding a motor cycle, collided with a tram at Redcliffs, Sumner, about 6 p.m. on Saturday. He was admitted to the Public Hospital with severe head injuries from which he died early this morning. DEATH FROM POISONING (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, December 15. Mrs M. Ashby, aged 22, married, with two children, who is living apart from her husband, H. Ashby, died in hospital to-day from poisoning. She had been living in a boarding house in Tuam street, and she walked into the house this morning saying she had swallowed poison. She was rushed to the hospital, but failed to respond to treatment and died half an hour after her admission. A FRACTURED LEG Robert Lowther, aged 11 years, suffered a fracture of the right leg when he was struck by a motor lorry while crossing Frederick street on Saturday morning. The boy, who resides at Harbour terrace, was admitted to the Hospital for treatment. FOUNDRY EMPLOYEE INJURED As a result of his hand being caught in a drilling machine on Saturday morning at Messrs A. and T. Burt’s foundry, where he is employed, John M'Donald, aged 17 years, suffered a badly-injured index finger. He received treatment at the hospital. His home is at -28 Clifford street.
