FRIDAY'S COMMUNITY "SING"

Dr A. L. Lewis, of Hollywood, motion pictui'e director, has volunteered to arrange the programme in connection with the community " sing" to be held this Friday at 12.30 p.m. in the Octagon Theatre. Dr Lewis has been engaged since last June producing " Phar Lap's Son," a comedy "talkie," for the South Seas Films, Ltd., of Duncdin, and will bring with him to the Octagon Theatre several of his cast and associates to assist with the programme. Among those scheduled to appear on the stage will be Nada and Maurine Phillips in jazz harmony, both vocal and instrumental; Master Treverson Phillips, who Dr Lewis considers one of the unusually good juvenile tap dancers in New Zealand; Miss Lexic Mathieson, of Tomahawk, in a humorous recital; Mr C. H. Lewis, baritone soloist; Miss Lettie de Clifford and Mr Jeavons, in solos and duet; Miss Rebecca Foote, soprano. Dr A. L. Lewis will also tell several negro dialect stories. In addition Miss Marguerita Cotton, a well-known local artist and sculpturist, will sell one or more sittings for sketches or modelling. All the proceeds will go towards the health stamp campaign for health camps. Gifts of flowers and articles for sale will be appreciated, and may be left at the Octagon Theatre. The " sing " will be broadcast by 4YA.
