, LEVEL CROSSING SMASH MOTOR DRIVER'S LUCKY ESCAPE (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, December 10. A remarkable escape from serious in jury was experienced by a boot retailer, Frederick William Stone, of Mount Eden, when a light van which he was driving was struck by a suburban train at the level crossing at Glen Eden. The motor vehicle was spun completely round and carried 30 feet, but Stone, who was the sole occupant, escaped with burns to the hands and minor cuts on the face. The motor van burst into flames and the petrol tank exploded with a report that could be heard some distance away.
