HORTICULTURE
NEW ZEALAND INSTITUTE The monthly meeting of the Executive Council of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture was held recently, when there were present: Dr W. R. B. Oliver (in the chair), Captain Sanderson, Messrs Pope, Waugh, Dallas, Hyde and the secretary. The Examining Board of the institute recommended that a gold medal be presented annually to the best student, in the opinion of'the Examining Board, in the diploma examination, but that no award be made if it considered that there was no candidate of sufficient merit.— The recommendation was adopted as a memorial to the late Dr Cockayne.
The Canterbury Horticultural Society notified its acceptance of the competition in due course for the Bledisloe (fruit) Cup. Consideration of the draft annual report and balance sheet was held over until next meeting.
