MOTORING INTERESTS

' ♦ SOUTH ISLAND UNION CONCLUSION OF BUSINESS (Pee United Pbess Association) BLENHEIM, December 10. The South Island Motor Union has been moving in the matter of the elimination of dangerous radiator caps, and the sec'retary reported that the latest advice from the Transport Department was that the best method of attaining this object •was to approach the motor manufacturers in England, and that was being done. A scheme for the sign-posting of telephones in outlying districts had been referred to the associations, and replies were to hand from two of these. Southland had no recommendation to make as far as its territory was concerned, and North Otago took the view that it was not fair to owners of telephones to signpost them unless they were subsidised. It was recommended that only subsidised .telephones be signposted. These replies .were noted. The secretary reported that a certain number of new South Island road maps would be available to associations for distribution before Christmas. It was decided that the half-yearly meeting should be held at Christchurch. The meeting sat till after midnight. The majority of the delegates .were the guests to-day of the Marlborough Association on a cruise in "Queen Charlotte Sound.
