TAIERI RIVER TRUST

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taieri River Trust was held yesterday at Mosgiel, and was attended by: Messrs T. M. Ball (in the chair), C. Findlay, A. Moore, J. M. Smith, J. Young, J. Gow and H. W. Wilson. FINANCE. o Accounts amounting to £155 14s 2d were passed for payment. It was decided to increase the rate of pay for subsidised relief workers to 12s per day for a six-day week. An increase of Is per day was granted to all permanent employees. WORK FOR THE MONTH. The foreman (Mr J. Marshall) reported having cleaned 135 chains of Upper Duck Creek, and recommended that work should be commenced on Wylie’s Creek diversion. The inspector (Mr W. Munro) reported that 110 chains of the new cut had been cleaned and bigger pipes had been provided for Spence’s drain. The men were at present engaged deepening Spence’s drain. The reports were adopted. REPAYMENT RATE. Mr Wilson reported having interviewed the Prime Minister (Mr G. W. Forbes), when he was in Dunedin, on the question of relief with regard to the repayment rate. Mr Forbes had promised to give sympathetic consideration to the request of the deputation. Mr Wilson suggested that the trust should meet the local members of Parliament with the object of having some action taken as soon os possible. —After discussion it was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the secretary (Mr W. P. Hartstonge) to draw up a suitable scheme for the consideration of the trust. NEW DRAIN PROPOSED. There was a brief discussion on the question of opening a new drain from the syphon under the contour channel on the Henley-Berwick road to give drainage to settlers in the Berwick area whose classifications were recently amended.— The matter was left in the hands of the Works Committee. GENERAL. It was agreed to supply the necessary material for a fence along the road from the pumping station to the Henlcy-Ber-wick road, provided the tenant of the property would erect the fence.
