EASTERN SOUTHLAND Gore Queen Carnival The Gore combined sports queen carnival was successfully concluded on Saturday evening at the wind-up bazaar held in the Theatre Royal. The final result was very satisfactory, the sum of £PSS 14s 7d being raised from an effort over a period of two months. Princess Kathleen O’Connor, representing the Gore and Celtic Cricket Clubs, the Pioneer Rugby Football Club, and the St. Patrick’s Lawn Tennis Club, .was successful in heading the list, her committee raising the satisfactory sum of £345 15s 4d. The details of the returns from the various committees were as follows: —Princess Kathleen O’Connor, 27,666 votes, £345 15s ■ 4d; Princess Betty Edwards (Gore and Citizens’ Lawn Tennis Clubs and the Albion Rugby Football Club), ,20,786 votes, £259 16‘s 6d; Princess Kathleen Kirk (Gore Golf Club), 15,411 votes, £192 12 S 9d; Princess Isobel Graham (Gore and Hokonui Bowling Clubs and Gore Croquet Club), 12,600 votes, £157 10s; —total, £955 14s 7d. The Rainfall ": The rainfall registered at Oturehua for the month of November was 3.12 inches. It was the coolest November sinoe 1930, but following the abnormally dry spring, the rain was very welcome. TAPANUI Cricket On the Tapanui Ground on Siaturdav, in particularly hot weather, tine local eleven decisively defeated the Lawrence team. Batting first, Tapanui compiled 167 runs (A. Rodger 86, Mockfyffd 20). Bowling for Lawrence Mong obtained five wickets for 57 runs and J. Eavanagh three for 79. JLawrence was dismissed for 51 runs (J. Kavanagh 15 and Donahue 15). Mills obtained two wickete for six runs and Cuttriss four for 11. ? • Celtic B met and defeated Tayoariui on Wednesday on the Tapanui Ground by 119 runs. Tapanui batted first and was dismissed for 31, Mills being top-scorer with nine runs, M. Mallon obtaining five wickets for five runs off only four overs. Celtic was dismissed for 150. Barclay was Tapanuie most successful ibowler obtaining three wickets for 20 runs, whilst the majority of the Celtic bailsmen obtained double figures, Richards' (33) and Martin (25) being the chief scorers. .
