MINER BURIED ALIVE

TRAGEDY NEAR ALEXANDRA FALL OF EARTH IN CLAIM Buried alive by a fall of earth; William Pearce, aged 61 years, was found dead at bis claim near Alexandra shortly after 6 o’clock last evening. Pearce bad been working during the day at his claim, which is situated about a mile and a-half from Alexandra on the bank of the Manuherikia River. When be did not return to bis home for tea at 6 o’clock his son became anxious for his safety and informed Constable Sorrell, of Alexandra. The pair proceeded to the claim, where they found Pearce buried by a fall of earth over three feet in depth. It was found that life was extinct. An inquest will be held at Alexandra at 10 o’clock this morning.
