REPUBLICAN TREND

AMERICAN STATE ELECTIONS NEW YORK, November 6. The Republicans regained control of the New York. State Assembly to-day, transforming the previous Democratic majority of four into a Republican margin of 14. The Republican leaders interpreted the victory as an indication that “ New Deal ” support was vanishing. A Republican trend was also evident in numerous mayoralty elections in the States. In the State of New Jersey, where national issues were also raised. Republicans led in most contests for the General Assembly and State Senate. Philadelphia’s vindictive mayoralty campaign was decided in favour of Mr Davis Wilson, a Republican, over Mr John Kelly, Democrat. San Francisco re-elected its Mayor, Mr Angelo Rossi. Virginia and Mississippi swept in Democratic nominees, as expected.
