NORTH OTAGO WOMEN’S CLUB
VISIT OF LADY FERGUSON About 90 members were present at the Women’s Club, Oaraaru, on Tuesday afternoon, when Lady Ferguson and Miss Jean Nicolson (Dunedin), president and secretary of the Otago Women’s Club, were the guests. For two years Lady Ferguson has been president also of the New Zealand Federation of Women’s Clubs. The rooms were charmingly decorated, (he colour scheme being of great artistry. Dutch iris and azaleas in beautful shadings of blue, orange, and gold were the flowers used by the Gardening Circle. Mrs Forrester (president) extended a welcome to the visitor's and introduced them to the members, and reminded them how helpful tije Otago Club had been to the local club during the difficulties of formation. The wonderful success of the senior club was always an inspiration to the smaller communities. On behalf of the members, Mrs Tait presented Lady Ferguson wtih a bouquet of fragrant lily-of-the-valley. Lady Ferguson expressed her pleasure at having an opportunity to meet the North Otago members. She took ,ae the subject of her talk “ The Advantages to Women Travelling of the Federation of Clubs,” and described some of the activities of her own club. In a very entertaining manner she told of experience in clubs in Australia, Great Britain, and Europe, and ,gave her hearers an excel lent idea of the assistance such clubs could be. With many humorous touches, sh° sketched some of the work of the II circles of the Otago Club, with special reference to the Motor Circle, the aim of which was to give pleasure to hospital patients and invalid soldiers. She made a special plea for the care and preservation of trees, and of the abolition of hoardings. She complimented the club on its wonderful progress for 11 years, due, no doubt, to the enthusiasm of its members. Mrs M‘Do well proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Lady Ferguson, which was enthusiastically endorsed. During the afternoon tea’ was’ served by the members of the House Committee, and those present wer e entertained by a short programme consisting of musical items by Mesdames Piper and M‘Culloch and Miss I. Dawson. A short play produced by Miss M'Adatn was presented, the following taking part;—Mesdames M’Diarmid, M'Dowell, Crimp, and Hunter, and Misses Williams and Fitzgerald.

MAYORESS’S RELIEF COMMITTEE At the monthly meeting of the Mayores’s Relief Committee the Mayoress (Mrs M. F. E. Cooney) occupied the chair. The committee was most grateful to Messrs Linton Hodge, J. Weir, and G. Dorward and Mrs Loper for their splendid effort in raising £250 10s Id for relief during the winter months; also to the citzens who helped to make the sings such an unqualified success. The community sings had proved a source of enjoyment to large audiences. It was reported that the relief depot would be open one day this month to distribute groceries and clothing to necessitous cases. Accounts amounting to £96 4s 9d were passed for payment. \
