LATEST FIGURES FOR BRITAIN (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, November 4. (Received Nov. 5, at 5.5 p.m.) The unemployment figures show a reduction of over 40,000 in the number of unemployed in October compared with the preceding month. The Ministry of Labour estimates that at October 21 there were approximately 10,492,000 insured persons aged 16 to 64 in employment in Britain. This is 14,000 more than at September 23 and 279,000 more than a year before. At the same date the numbers of unemployed persons on registers in Britain totalled 1,916,390, comprising 1,595,089 wholly unemployed, 238,866 temporarily laid off, and 81,835 normally in casual employment. The total was 42,220 fewer than at September 23 and 203,245 fewer than a year before.
