MODEL OF MONS BELFRY
PRESENTED TO KING GEORGE MONS, November 3. With impressive military ceremonial, in the presence of Prince Charles of Belgium, the British Ambassador (Sir Esmond Ovey) accepted on behalf of King George a poppy-wreathed silver model of Mons belfry weighing eight pounds, containing consecrated earth from the graves of British soldiers. It was a jubilee gift to his Majesty by allied ex-servicemen and the local populace. #
