DR JAMES GIBB

SYMPATHY OF ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH

The following letter has been received by the moderator of the Wellington Presbytery, the Rev. F. Wilkinson, with reference to the death of Dr James Gibb, from Archbishop O’Shea:— “ May I offer to you and through you to the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand, my very sincere sympathy and the sympathy of the Catholic body in the great loss you have suffered by the death of the Reverend Dr Gibb. For a good many years the late Dr Gibb and myself had been on very friendly terms, and I came to appreciate hie excellent qualities, especially his courage and sincerity. We had many views in common, especially on such questions as religious education and world peace. We shall all miss his energetic assistance in these tilings, and I can quite understand and appreciate what a loss his death will be to his own church. He had a long life and he used it well. May he rest in peace.” To this letter the following reply was sent bv Mr Wilkinson: —

“ Your Grace, —On behalf of the presbytery of Wellington, 1 desire to acknowledge your kind letter of sympathy with us in the loss that we as a church have suffered by the death of the Reverend Dr Gibb. The presbytery and I myself value your kind remembrance at this time. Those of us who were privileged to know Dr Gibb intimately share your appreciation of him and his work. I know, too, how much he appreciated your personal friendship and co-opera-tion.”
