“THIS WOMAN BUSINESS”
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —It is refreshing to read that Mrs Gilmer, candidate for a Wellington seat, appealed to her hearers to cut out “ this woman busincsss.” She stated she desired to stand on her ability alone, and therein she showed her common sense. It would be well if lier advice were recognised in some other electorates. What has the accident of sex got to do with the matter of an electorate representation? It is a strange thing to find the chief plank in a candidate’s platform is her sex, and the main appeal of her chief supporters is on the same ground. Reliance largely on this factor in an election campaign certainly seems to infer,a recognition that other qualifications are negligible and much less obvious.—l am, etc.. Elector.
