HOSPITAL POLICY
The question whether or not the Wellington Public Hospital should bo open to all was raised at a meeting of the hoard last week. Mr A. W. Croskery, chairman of the House Committee, reported that the following opinion of the combined honorary staff bad been received:— It is the opinion of tho combined staff, both stipendiary and honorary, of this hospital that a system of a hospital open to all members of the community, both as out-patients and in-patients, is incompatible with honorary service on the part of the medical staff. Honorary service is traditionally designed for the treatment of the indigent sick. If the board wishes the policy of the hospital—namely, for it to be open to all—to continue, the staff is prepared to suggest a scheme which would be compatible with the carrying out of that policy. After a brief discussion in which the chairman, Mr F. Castle, said that the problem was really too big for any one board to tackle, the matter was referred hack to the committee fer further consideration.
