TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL

CROSS-COUNTRY RACES The annual cross-country races of the Dunedin Technical High School were held yesterday over courses starting at the Balmacewen golf links. The weather was fine, but there was a strong northerly wind which made conditions a little unpleasant. The course for the senior race was about three miles in length and led over difficult country. Off a handicap of Imin 30sec, G. W. Johnstone led the field by about 150 yards to fill first position and to win the Hayward Memorial Cup for fastf't time. V. Campbell was second and T. Blair third, both being off three minutes. The intermediate race over a course c! about two and a : half miles was won by J. Harwood, off Imin 30sec, by a fairly comfortable margin, O. Glengarry (scr) established fastest time with 14min Ssec, the record being ISmin 25sec. The junior event, which was held over a course of about two. miles, resulted in a good win for I. Thomas (ssec), who finished 15 yards ahead of Kennedy (scr). Thomas also tied for fastest time honours with Kennedy (scr), both runners covering the distance in 12min 40sec.
