The Banks Peninsula Racing Club held a very successful meeting at Motukarara to-day. The weather was fine, a welcome change after heavy rain earlier in the week, while the track had dried surprisingly well and provided good going, though a trifle slow. Good fields provided excellent sport. Princess Rawene, Calotte, and Nolana set the pace in the Okains Trial Stakes. Document, Tooley Street, Rival Shot, and Dark Rose being others prominent at the home turn. Tooley Street then shot out and won easily by four lengths from Document, with Dark Rose, finishing strongly, a length away. Princess Rawene, Rival Shot, and Greek Vase were close up. The winner had disappointed on occasions, but had run well more than once. He is not a sound horse, and the easy ground suited him. Nocturnus led all the way in the Kaituna High-weight Handicap, Monastic joined him at the home turn, where Wonderful, M’Heath, and Trumpet Flast were handy. Wonderful then retired, and Nocturnus stalled off M'Heath by half a length. Jolly Beggar, who came with a late run, was a length away, clear of Monastic, Sky Pilot and Trumpet Blast. The favourite, Hunting Bag, disappointed. The winner is owned by Mr G. J. Barton, of Dunedin, and this was his best form this season, though he showed fair promise in a hurdle race early in the spring. The Duvauchelle Trot Handicap was a fine race between five horses. Harlequin led Lottie Guy from the start, Accel being third for a few furlongs, when she broke, Lady Hannah, Handicapper, and Purveyor going on behind the leaders. There was no change to the straight, and in an exciting finish Lady Hannah beat Purveyor by a head, with Harlequin a neck away, while Lottie Guy and Handicapper were close up. Lady Hannah was overdue, her last previous start being to finish in a place at Washdyke last month. Zest, the win favourite, had a sulky wheel buckled on the journey. Guarantee was soon in front in the J. F. Buchanan Handicap, Haeretonu following him out of the straight, while after three furlongs Tuirau also joined in, with Tout le Monde and Quietly following, then Argentic and Polydora. At the far turn Tuirau joined Guarantee in the lead, Tout le Monde bein'; next, while Quietly, Argentic, and Polydora were moving up. Guarantee was beaten when the straight was reached, Tuirau taking charge, with Tout le Monde, Quietly, Polydora, and Argentic all prominent. Argentic then challenged, but Tuirau beat him by a head. Tout le Monde was a length away, then Quietly, Guarantee. Polydora, and Haeretonu. The winner’s performance was a good one, and pleased her Cup admirers. Argentic also ran a solid race, as did Tout le Monde, who will win soon. Polydora did not carry on in the straight. Guarantee failed after a mile, while Haeretonu was in trouble earlier. Celerrimus got out badly in the Halewell Hack Handicap. Honour’s Lass was slow away, but soon ran up to the second place, behind Top Rank, while Rose of Tralee was handy. Bereft, Penelope, and Invoice followed these three round the home turn, where Honour’s Laes ran wide and disappeared. Penelope then challenged the leaders, getting up to beat Top Rank by a head, with Rose of Tralee a neck away. Bereft was two lengths back, with Invoice next. The

winner is a very speedy filly, but this was her first win of the season, her only other good effort being third to Tuirau and Kinnoull at Ashburton in September. Her latest effort looked good. Rebel Star set a strong pace in the Le Rons Handicap, Knockfin, Cranford, and Courtyard following him all the way to the straight, with Davolo and Manetho next. Rebel Star and Courtyard then retired, leaving Knockfin in charge. Cranford gradually overhauled her, while Davolo put in a late challenge, winning by a length from Cranford, who beat Knockfin by half a length. Tuuneller, after being a long way back, finished well in fourth place, with Manetho next. Davolo was having his first race for a long time, and lie will improve. Cranford ran one of his usual solid races. No excuses could be offered for Knockfin, who was under pressure a furlong from the winning post. Cam Dillon was smartest out in the Little River Trot Handicap with Our Fay and Purveyor next, while after half a mile Civic, Red Flush and Prince Roydon were next. Our Fay then ran to the front and half a mile from home Sky Wink joined the front division. There was no further change till the straight was reached. Purveyor then ran to the front and beat Our Fay by a length, with, Red Flush, finishing well, a length away.' Sky Wink and Mystery Yet were next. Purveyor showed smart form when he ran second earlier in the day. Dollar Prince was quickest out in the Brackenfield Hack Handicap, but Disguise headed him after a furlong, Silver Jest and Rose Val being next. Maroha moved up a little further on and at the far furn he joined Disguise in the lead, Rose Val and Dollar Prince heading the others. Disguise and Dollar Prince started to drift back when the straight was reached. Rose Val went on from Maroha, with Knowledge and Silver Jest handy. Rose Val won decisively, while Silver Jest got up to heat Maroha for second, after a good finishing effort. Knowledge fading into fourth place. Glowlight made her appearance at the home turn, but failed to run on. Dollar Prince was last home. Rose Val won in handsome style and will improve still further.
