NO MORE WAR PLAY
" The White Chateau," to be staged in His Majesty's Theatre next Tuesday by the Little Theatre Society, is not a war play in the usual and generally accepted sense of the word. Prom the pen of Reginald Berkeley, the Ne,w Zealand author and playwright, " The White Chateau" is a crushing indictment of the forces of evil, faithless gods and mad ideals. It traces, vividly and frankly, with verve and vigour, the aims of the No More War Movement. It is an intensely „ interesting story of men and women in the grip of war. It is written from first-hand knowledge—not " armchair " theary —by one who was actually in the trenches in Flanders, an officer of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade—Captain Reginald Berkeley. In most parts of the world this play has been accepted as the greatest achievement in the interests of no more war, but to date New Zealand has had no opportunity of witnessing a stage presentation. The Little Theatre Society, the society that has so far always enjoyed packed-to-the-doors houses, has taken the initiative, and theatregoers should be assured of a worthy production. The cast is a particularly strong one, the' largest yet attempted in New Zealand as far as drama is concerned, and in balancing this army of dramatic exponents the Little Theatre Society has undertaken a great deal. Many of the members of this big cast are newcomers to the stage, but opportunity and training have brought latent acting ability, the high standard of which it is claimed will surprise and please. The actom have not, in this no more war production, been given "ready-made" or "totype " parts. The box plan for the public will be opened at Berg's to-day for ta» one-night season, November 5.
