HOLIDAY TRAFFIC
BUSY TRAINS AND TRAMS Ae is usual on Labour Day, there was a big exodus of picnickers and excursionists from the city yesterday, and in consequence traffic "by train and tram was heavy. The train .which conveyed the Dunedin Sunshine Club's excursion to the West Coast returned in the morning with a complement of 400 passengers, and between 7.45 and 9:15 a.m. no fewer than four excursion trains, as well as the north and south expresses, were despatched from the Dunedin Railway Station. . . ■ The special racegoers' train to Gore, which left at 7,45, had 150 passengers on board when it left Dunedin, but this
number was supplemented considerably at the intermediate stations, nearly 250 travellers alighting at the southern town. The special train for the.Oamaru Trotting Club's meeting, which left at 8.25, was also well patronised and had 370 passengers on board when it. left Dunedin. The regular Oamaru train, which left at 9.15, conveyed another 300, and about 250 excursionists were oh the special seaside train for Palmerston, which was despatched at 9.5. The trains returning in the evening carried particnlarly heavy loadings, as, in addition to the passengers who had travelled in the morning, they brought back-a large number of holiday-makers who had been ,out of town during the weekend. The beaches and the!various resorti around the city drew their full quota of holiday-makers who did not wish to go out of town, and throughout the day the suburban tram and bus services wera heavily loaded.
