to the editor. Sir, —In your issue of yesterday you mention under “ Seventy-one Years the sale of. the Hillside, Water of Leith, and Saddle Hill Tolls. I would like to know if the Provincial Council of Otago was in existence at that time, as ' I understood that the first toll gate to be opened under the council was the Stoney Creek toll, which was opened on 186 - b y my father, Mr Alex, b.
