CATTLE-STEALING CHARGE

LABOURER PLEADS NOT GUILTY (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 21. Twenty cows which were missed at Grey town from a herd of 100 owned by Mr Quentin Donald were alleged in the Supreme Court to-day to have been stolen by Harry Leo Biggar. aged .‘l2, a labourer, drover, and dealer. He pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft, and not guilty to a charge of receiving cattle knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. According to the charge the 20 cows were valued at £IOO. The prosecution said the cows were all heavily in calf and when a muster was taken it was found that 20 were missing. A few days before Biggar bad sent 20 cows to the Gear Meat Company as boners. . Evidence was given that bides at the works were inspected by Donald and that 20 were identified. For the defence, it was claimed that none of the hides was identifiable as belonging to Donald. The case was unfinished.
