DUKE OF BUCCLEUCH
FUNERAL IN SCOTLAND TO-DAY (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, October 19. All the newspapers express deep sympathy with Lady Alice Scott and the Duke of Gloucester on the death of the Duke of Buecleuch. The duke, who was 71, underwent an operation shortly before the engagement of his third daughter to the Duke of Gloucester was announced, and two days ago it was learned that his condition gave cause for anxiety. The succession to the dukedom of the Earl of Dalkeith, who is member of Parliament for the Roxburgh and Selkirk Division, creates a vacancy in that constituency. The Duke of Gloucester is travelling to Scotland to-night to attend the funeral, which will take place on Tuesday. The wedding will take place on November C, privately, in the chapel of Buckingham Palace. NO PAGEANTRY AT WEDDING LONDON, October 20. The Duke of Gloucester’s private wedding means cancellation of the procession, for which rehearsals have just been held, and all pageantry. It is expected that the arrangements for the Archbishop of Canterbury to conduct the marriage will still hold. INSURANCE COMPANY LOSSES LONDON, October 20. (Received Oct. 21, at 8 p.m.) The decision that the Duke of Gloucester’s wedding will be private will cost insurance companies at least £20,000, due to claims from stand erectors, stand holders and caterers covering themselves against cancellation of the processional drive.
