FAIR PLAY VERSUS FANATICISM Care must be taken not to confound tbe total abstainer with the prohibitionist. There are thousands of total abstainers in New Zealand who consistently vote Continuance, because they know that prohibition has been proved a complete failure, and because they believe that it is no function of the State to interfere with the personal habits of the people, so Ion" as these habits conform to decent standards. The man who voluntarily abstains and at the same time does not judge the man who doesn’t, occupies an unassailable position as an inculcatoi of temperance. Such a man will never vote for prohibition, as by doing so he would place a stricture on the liberty of his fellow-man, whom he is determined not to judge. The prohibitionist, on the other hand, urges his propaganda with no respect for his fellow-men. There arc some who practise prohibition upon themselves —the only way prohibition can succeed—and others who support it as a political expedient, regardless of its universal failure. Temperance is right, prohibition is wrong. Continuance is the only verdict New Zealand can afford from every point of view.—Advt. Advertising nays Us way, often many tunes over. It will permit lower prices through increased volume. It can reduce selling costs. It can lessen the tune in which a product moves from factory to consumer.
