A SHOPPING DIARY

Mv friend, Norah, is one of those practical people who always have something useful to teach you. Yesterday I was out shopping with her, and, over a welcome cup of tea, we discussed the joys and sorrows of the whole complicated business. I was the doleful one, she, as usual, the optimist. . , „ “-You are never equipped for the JOD, she’ said. . "Why don’t you keep a shopping diary?" . "A shopping diary? Whatever is Norah opened her trim little bag and produced a wee leather notebook. “ Look at this,” she commanded, and tell me what you think of my latest idea. I've a good mind to patent it and put it on the market.” The little book was marvellous. Pages were filled with notes revolving round renovations for the house.. Certain kitchen utensils she needed later were written down with ,the name of each shop where the particqlar gadget could bo fount!. ' . , Names of shops where she preferred (by experience) their goods —but was not depending upon her memory. Ideas gleaned from a pastrycook’s window, tor when she was “throwing” her next party. A line in woollen pyjamas that wag particularly cheap. All these were among her entries. I turned over another page. “ Oh, Norah, what a wonderful idea, this page about presents.” “Yes, isn’t it? Haven’t you noticed yourself, when you have been walking through the big stores, that a particular article has struck you as being the perfect present for a certain somebody? “Oh, heaps of times! But I always forget about them afterwards. “Exactly! So you see the great value of a shopping diary now. It saves time —oh—hours and sometimes days ot wandering aimlessly from shop to shop. You get better value, by going to the rb'ht shop, and last, but not least, you are certain of making sensible purchases. “Well, thanks for the new brainwave, Norah, and when you have quite finished, smoking 1 have some more shopping to do.” “What is that?” “A diary—l have seen enough tilings to-day to fill one! ’’—Home Chat.
