NOTES FROM WELLINGTON

(Special to Daily Times) WELLINGTON. October 21. Cuddle, who accepted in both the Wainui and Wellington Handicaps, was scratched for the former event at 10.20 thig morning. Cuddle will probably be ridden at Trentham again by F. Thompson. who was successful on her at Masterton. A definite arrangement will not he made until T. R. George arrives hack on Wednesday, but Mr Murphy was well satisfied with the way Thompson handled the mare at Masterton. Brabant, the winner of the two-year-old race at Masterton. is a hay colt by Vaals from Roselove, and although bred in New Zealand he is of Australian parentage on both sides. Vaals is siring speedy stock, hut on the dam’s side Brabant should also stay, his dam, Roselove, being by Rossendale from Belove, by Haut Brion—Adoration, by Nordenfeldt—ldolatry. by Isonomy. The two-year-old colt Sicgimmd. who ran second to Brabant, would attract attention by his looks alone, apart from the promise he showed. Ho is as big as a three-year-old, and on the race he ran he should not be long in winning a race. He is also very attractively bred, being by Siegfried from I’Limond, by Limond from Farce, by San Fran or Absurd from Cowl. This is the family that produced The Monk. Rational, Habit, and many other good gallopers bred at Koatanui. Siegmund shows many of the Limond characteristics.

Riding engagements for the Wellington meeting include the following:—II N. Wiggins—Western Maid, Fersen, Happy Landing, II Duce, Chikara. and Variant: S. Anderson —Finuesko, Windward. Dawning Light, and Ronipalong; S. Wilson —Arctic King. Brabant, and Jubilee Song: J. A. M'Farlane —Sunee, Cloudy Bay, and Hunting Lodge; W. E. Pine—Mirth, Master Reynard, and Sweet Music: P. Goldfinch—Patter, Big Dock, Vanestep, Cerne Abbas, Gray Honour, and Fair Weather. The four-year-old Chief Ruler gelding Mowgli changed stables at Masterton, being taken over there on Saturday by A. Jenkins.

Royal Banquet, who has been sore, put up a good effort against Walton Park at Masterton. He did not accept for the first day at Wellington, but he will be here for the second day. The Gisborne pair Big Dook and Vanestep ran good races for fresh horses at Masterton. They both look well and should improve. They came on to Trentham on Saturday.

F. Davis will bring Heritage, Plato, Haut Monde, Senior, and Kotou to Wellington and will go on to Rioearton at the conclusion of the meeting here. P. Atkins will ride Heritage, hut most of the stable riding will bo done by L. J. Ellis when the weights suit. Sweet Agnes and Master Reynard, who raced at Masterton on Saturday, are now trained at Westport by E. Joyce. They both showed promising form and may get some money at the Wellington meeting. It was the first race Sweet Agnes had had since last December.
