OBITUARY
MRS MARGARET CALLANAN The death of another of the old-time residents of the Tokomairiro district is recorded in the passing away on September 8 of Mrs Margaret Callanan, of Queen street, Milton. The deceased, who was 77 years of age, was born in County Galway, Ireland, and when only five years of age accompanied her parents, the late Mr and Mrs Simon Athy, when they emigrated to New Zealand in the ship Aboukir, landing at Port Chalmers in 1863. Her parents immediately went to the Milton district, and on attaining womanhood the deceased was married to Mr Patrick Callanan, who was engaged in gold mining at* Waitahuna Gully. After several years at gold mining, Mr Callanan purchased a farm property at Manuka Creek, where they resided until Mr Callanan's death about 14 years ago, and Mrs Callanan eventually removed to Milton. The deceased is survived by a family of four sons and three daughters. One son was killed in the Somme offensive in the Great War. MR .NEIL M'ARTHUR v Mr Neil M'Arthur, whose death occurred at the Owaka Hospital on September 7, at the advanced age of 86 years, was a former well-Icnown resident of the Tokomairiro district. For several years he was engaged in farming pursuits in the Table Hill district, but about 18 years ago he acquired a email farm property in the Clarksville district, which he relinquished in September, 1934, owing to advancing years. He then removed to Maclennan' to reside with a son. Mr M'Arthur's wife predeceased him several years ago.
