ORKNEY AND SHETLAND SOCIETY

MONTHLY SOCIAL

The monthly social of the Orkney and Shetland Society was held on Saturday evening at the Unity Chambers, the hall being packed with members and friends of the society. Mr W. Sabiston presided and extended a hearty welcome to all including , members of the Scottish Society and Yorkshire and Lancashire Society. Mr Harrison, president of the latter society, responded. .The following contributed items during the evening:—Mrs J. M'Kay, songs, " Oor Ain Glen" and " The Border Maiden" ; Misses M. Beecot and W. Henderson, pianoforte duets; Mr Arthur Macdonald, songs, " Standard on the Braes of Mar," " Blue Bonnets Over the Border " and" Here Is My Song" ; Miss Daphne Allan's reel party —Misses Lorraine Boss, Lorraine MacPherson, Margie Baxter and Margaret Harris; Messrs Laurie, Smyth and Clark (Hawaiian instrumental trio). The accompanists were Mrs A. Macdonald, Miss Matheson and Piper MTherson. The Monte Carlo waltz; prizes were won by Miss Olive M'Master and Mr L. Ogg. The dance music was supplied by Miss Allan's orchestra, and Mr W. Sabiston carried out the duties of M.C.
