SOLD TO JAPAN

UNION COMPANY'S KAITOKE

GISBORNE, September 9.

The Union Company's freighter Kaitoke has been sold to Japan to be scrapped. She left Gisbome early this evening for Osaka direct. , The vessel carries 3500 tons of scrap iron collected in many parts of the Dominion, completing with 811 tons from Gisbome. The Kaitoke was launched at Middlesbro in 1918 as the War Palace, and was then renamed Cape Colony. She was acquired by the Union Steam Ship Company in 1920.
