CRICKET

KAIKORAI CLUB The thirteenth annua] meeting of the Kaikorai Cricket Club was held in the club's pavilion, Bishopscourt, last evening, the president (Mr W. G. Holden) occupying the chair. There was an attendance of 38 members. ANNUAL REPORT Moving the' adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, the president stated that they must all be very pleased with the, state of affairs as disclosed by the report. The balance sheet was undoubtedly one of the best ever presented and was a credit to all concerned. The senior team gained a higher place in the competition last season than it did the previous year, and with a little more luck might have been higher still. It was to be hoped, he said, that the club would be in the senior competition again in the coming season, as, from a cricketing point of view, it would be a pity if the residents of the hill suburbs did not have a First Grade team. This year special soil would be used on the wickets to improve them, and by this means it was hoped that they would be then second to none in Dunedin, and that the trouble experienced in the past would be eliminated. The speaker, commenting on the performance of the various teams, congratulated Mr R. O. Talbot on his excellent batting during last season, and Messrs G. M'Gregor and G. Cook on their outstanding success with the ball in the senior team. The intermediate team had a hard time as it had to supply the emergencies for the First Grade team, but under the circumstances it had performed very well. The two Second Grade teams had had a lean year but they should not be discouraged, as they were gaining good experience. Practices had, unfortunately, not been attended as well as they should, and there seemed to be a lack of enthusiasm, which he sincerely hoped would be revived again in the coming season. The chairman paid attribute to the work done by the Ladies' Committee, which had been very energetic in the interests of the club, and its support, together with that of all other followers, had been greatly appreciated. The balance sheet, he concluded, disclosed-a credit balance of £33 7s Id, which was a highly satisfactory state of affairs.

The motion was seconded by Mr H.' Balk, who stated that the club had started the season with a high reputation among other clubs, and this had not been lowered. The balance sheet, he said, reflected great credit on the work done by the secretary and treasurer. Mr H. Wilkinson also spoke, urging better attendances at practice hours. The report and balance sheet were adopted. OFFICE-BEARERS. The election of officer-bearers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr Arthur Barnett; president, Mr C. Finlayson; vicepresidents —Messrs H. V.
