“RUGBY FOOTBALL TOURISTS”
TO THE EDITOR Sir,-—I wag very much surprised to read the letter by; “Fair Deal” under the_ above heading in Thursday morning’s Daily Times. Surely your correspondent must have a very limited knowledge of the unsparing work carried out by theee administrators of Rugby when he writes about “others with probably more service to football to commend them.” Mr Donald Stuart, even in his capacity as one of the / selectors of. the Otago team, makes enough sacrifices to justify him being chosen for the position of manager. The ordinary duo supporter, on being appointed selector, would follow his own club team each Saturday and thus see the other clubs only when they were playing against his own team. Not so with Mr Stuart. Ha has made what must be great sacrifices to himself in going round the different grounds to see each team in action and baa thus been enabled to pick the splendid team which we have this year.; With regard to Mr J, B. Wootton, it is a well-known fact that he gives up each Sunday morning in order to preside over the unofficial committee meetings held in the tramway shelter shed at St. Kilda. The only point that; is worrying me at the moment 'is: Why is it necessary to have' two managers? When it is considered that the All Blacks toured England : and ' South Africa with only one manager, it seems difficult to understand the need for two managers with the Otago team.— l am, etc., , Fan. North-East Valley. August 23.
